Cat's Prize

      by Courtney Curran

I slip through the brush

And stalk my prey

The mouse has no chance

To get away

The catch is mine

So it is only fair

That I take it home

And hide it there

The back door of the house

Is slightly ajar

I sneak through the grass

Then crouch under a car

I make my move

And creep through the door

I speed through the kitchen

But slide on the floor

I bump into the leg

Of the woman there

I hold my mouse

And return her stare

She grabs her face

And screams in fright

She cannot even move

Her face is white

People come running

And before too long

I get a bad feeling

That something is wrong

The next thing I know

I’m back out of the house

And lying next to me

Is my prize mouse
