Round Valley Cannon
by Maggie Koger
Meeting you by chance
I see Round Valley again
walk along the damp soil
winding paths of our telling
sad stories at odds with
meadows filled with life.
Notes of lavender lupine
straightened my spine
as pain, betrayal lifted.
High in the pure flute
of shooting stars dancing
above a chorus of cowslip
I listened to pine and wind
soughing me whole. So
now I want to step forward
fling your empty arms open
whirl you round and round
till you turn out right.
